BASF offers fungicide selection tips

Spring to-do lists often include planting prep as the No. 1 priority, but farmers need to be proactive in fungicide planning so diseases like Northern Corn Leaf Blight and common rust do not have time to infect crops.

In addition to preventing disease, fungicides can increase growth efficiency and stress intolerance in plants like corn and soybeans.

BASF has developed a fungicide called Priaxor to prevent broad spectrum of diseases including Frogeye leaf spot, Septoria brown spot and Aerial web blight. The fungicide Headline AMP helps produce healthy corn crops.

Here are three tips – select, create and monitor – that corn and soybean crop growers need to remember to have a better opportunity to have healthier, stronger crops come harvest time.

The first tip is to make sure the fungicide selected works toward multiple benefits to produce healthy, strong crops in disease-prone crop fields.

Second, farmers should create a plan before the planting season starts to include fungicides at different times of crop growth.

Finally, farmers are reminded to keep an eye on the weather as late spring rains can create the perfect storm for fungal diseases.
