Governor's task force to hold water summit

Mississippi’s Governor’s Delta Sustainable Water Resources Task Force is hosting a summit Dec. 15 on irrigation and water conservation.

The one-day summit will run from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and will include a general session to begin the day and four breakout sessions on a variety of subjects that will interest producers, landowners, consultants and natural resource professionals. A general session will take place during a luncheon.

Kay Whittington, director of the Office of Land and Water Resources at the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, will give introductory remarks and discuss the volunteer metering program and task force progress. Jason Krutz, an irrigation specialist at Mississippi State University, will present results from the 2015 MSU RISER Program.

Breakout session speakers will include professionals from Mississippi State University, the USDA Agricultural Research Service, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District, Delta Plastics, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Louisiana NRCS office.
