Bee Vectoring Technologies opens research and production facility

Bee Vectoring Technologies International (BVT) has opened a production and research facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, where it will employ a team of internationally recognized agriculture scientists.

The facility will be the first to commercially produce proprietary organic pathogen control agents for bee propagation, with the possibility of manufacturing $100 million of product.

"This is a major milestone in the commercialization of a solution that has the potential to fundamentally alter how pests and diseases are controlled in the fruit and vegetables we eat," BVT Chief Executive Officer Michael Collinson said of the facility's launch. "We are fortunate to have a world-class team that has developed this solution. We now have a world class facility that will enable us to scale rapidly and take advantage of significant business development opportunities we are seeing, for a disruptive solution like BVT's in the national and global food growing industry."

BVT’s technologies include tray dispensers that contain a carrier agent designated to adhere to commercially reared bees for use as natural delivery mechanisms through the pollination process for pathogen controls. The unique process facilitates a targeted delivery of crop controls to flowering using the process of bee pollination to replace traditional crop spraying.

The benefits of using bee pollination for crop spraying are better yield of an organic product with less environmental impact.
