Dow AgroSciences recently released a statement about the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling that the Environmental Protection Agency's registration of products containing sulfoxaflor should be vacated. Sulfoxaflor, a sub-group of insecticides, had been approved for use against sap-feeding insects and pests.
Sulfoxaflor uses nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) competitive modulators to be effective; the insecticides bind to the nAChRs, mimicking acetylcholine and causing uncontrolled nerve impulses to surge through the insects’ muscles, causing tremors, paralysis and death.
Dow AgroSciences disagrees with this conclusion and siad work with the EPA to complete any additional regulatory work needed for the products to be approved. The company is also working as quickly as possible to apply the new decision to its ongoing processes.
In addition, Dow AgroSciences is currently evaluating and considering various options that the company can use to challenge the court's decision.
Dow AgroSciences specializes in discovering, creating and marketing plan biotechnology and crop protection solutions for the agricultural industry. The company is based in Indianapolis and is a wholly owned subsidiary under the Dow Chemical Company. Dow AgroSciences earned global sales amounting to $7.3 billion in 2014.
