DuPont Pioneer
business director Pat Yockey is not anticipating any seed issues as a result of wet weather in parts of the Corn Belt.
Yockey said the company grows products across a number of locations. "That's part of our risk-management strategy to help ensure that we don't have those critical shortages."
He also said that Brownfield DuPont Pioneer produces more than what it intends to sell each year.
"That's part of the risk-management equation. We intend going into the year [to have] that product coming back to our plants and we use that the following year," he said.
DuPont Pioneer has a large footprint in the industry. Therefore, Yockey said smaller companies may face seed shortages going forward.
"The risk is there. Certainly they don't have the broad network," he said. "But I have not seen any information that would lead us to believe that those issues are out there."
Yockey said DuPont Pioneer anticipates having a complete supply of corn and soybean products next year and does not expect higher costs related to weather this growing season.
