Scottish crop expert Fiona Burnett receives professorship

Fiona Burnett, the head of Crop and Soil Systems at Scotland’s Rural College, recently received a professorship in Applied Plant Pathology at the school.

“Fiona is passionate about excellent science that makes a real difference in practice," fellow Professor Geoff Simm said. "She is noted for her clear, practical advice, based on strong evidence from research. Her expertise, rigor and independence are hugely respected by farmers, the wider agri industry, government and academics.” 

Burnett leads an extensive program of crop protection trials. In this capacity, she manages 50 industry projects per season in the region

She also writes for and has been interviewed extensively for the farming press. As a writer, Burnett contributes 30 to 40 popular articles per year.

Her crucial work on research projects has been funded by the United Kingdom's Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs, the Scottish Environment LINK and the Scottish Government.
