FDA takes first steps to modernize food-safety regulations under new law

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made progress this week in modernizing  food-safety regulations to prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses. The FDA finalized the first two out of seven major rules under the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). ASTA wants Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act to pass

,.The American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) said last week that it supports a national law that would override confusing state labeling regulations for bioengineered ingredients. ASTA President and CEO Andrew LaVigne praised the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act and said it includes uniform rules and a national certification program instead of a mish-mash of state laws that would leave consumers’ heads spinning and increase their grocery bills. Wheat Growers earn yield honors at competition

Five member-owners of Wheat Growers recently earned honors at corn, sorghum, and soybean competitions in North and South Dakota. The producers had more yields that the national averages. Quandt Bros. of Oakes, North Dakota, was one of the winners of the National Corn Growers Association Yield Contest. They earned second place with 230.2315 bushels per acre in the No-Till/Strip-Till Non-Irrigated category. Read More »
