ALABAMA FARMERS FEDERATION: Johns Promoted to Federation Chief Financial Officer

Alabama Farmers Federation issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.

The Alabama Farmers Federation welcomed Phillip Johns to its management team Dec. 4, when he was promoted to chief financial officer of the state’s largest farm organization.

“I am humbled and honored to step into the CFO role for the Federation,” said Johns, 31. “I look forward to building relationships, continuing the legacy that has been built into our department and innovating for the future to better serve our members and Federation staff.”

Johns joined the Federation in 2015 as accounting manager and is a graduate of the Alfa Leadership Academy, the company’s in-house leadership training program. He previously worked five years with Jackson Thornton, where he served on the team auditing the Federation and progressed from associate to senior associate to supervisor.

Federation Executive Director Paul Pinyan said Johns embraces innovation and has a vision to transition many accounting functions from paper to digital while encouraging employee engagement and increased collaboration with Alfa Insurance.

Johns brings an entrepreneurial spirit to the CFO position and is eager to grow membership, increase usage of Farm Bureau Bank services and strengthen the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation, Pinyan added.

“Phillip’s enthusiasm, professionalism and ability to work with members, coworkers, Alfa colleagues and business leaders will serve the Federation well,” he said. “As CFO, he will provide leadership for one of the most talented and hardworking accounting departments in Alabama.”

A native of Monroeville, Johns graduated from Monroe Academy before earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Johns also founded Prevail Union, a coffee shop in downtown Montgomery, and serves on boards for Goodwill River Region and Provisioned Ministries.

He and wife Brooke live in Montgomery’s Hampstead community and have one son, Beckett. They are active members of Church of the Highlands.
