Crop Life America issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.
CropLife America (CLA) outgoing president and CEO Jay Vroom spoke today at the 40th National Agronomic Environmental, Health and Safety School (NAEHSS) event in Bloomington, Illinois, to share reflections from his 30 years of executive leadership in the crop protection industry. His presentation highlighted the importance of safety and stewardship efforts.
“I am delighted to be the kick-off keynote speaker for the NAEHSS event this year and to share insights of the industry’s long-standing commitment to stewardship and safe application of crop protection chemistries,” said Jay Vroom. “As I reflect on the last several decades in this industry representing CLA, I find that stewardship directly corresponds to safety practices, and vice versa,” added Vroom. “The safety of agricultural workers in the U.S. is woven into the fabric of federal and state regulatory approaches and the everyday practices of our industry. The safety commitment of private industry and government has resulted in overall ag safety making significant strides in the last 30 years—and will continue to do so as technology advances.” Vroom also noted that safety must remain a priority.
The NAEHSS offers a unique opportunity for agricultural professionals to convene, discuss and learn valuable insights on a host of regulatory topics facing the industry. In addition to Vroom’s keynote address, the program includes an outstanding lineup of national speakers from industry, state and federal agencies that present on timely and relevant topics important to ag retailers. With 130 - 150 attendees primarily working in environmental health and safety from all over the country, about 70 percent are returning participants who enjoy attending year after year. The Safety School has been held in conjunction with Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association’s MAGIE Show in Bloomington, Illinois, since the early 2000’s.
