Montana Farm Bureau optimistic about trade plans

Montana Farm Bureau President Hans McPherson praised President Donald Trump for his trade positions.

“It is no surprise that President Trump pulled out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership as he told us he would during his campaign," McPherson said in a news release. "Farmers are optimistic people and we are hopeful he is working towards a better trade agreement than the TPP.

"(Trump) has said he will put American First in our trade deals. He has selected some good people in his cabinet like Sonny Perdue for U.S. secretary of Agriculture, which makes us feel optimistic he will develop a good trade plan,“ the release said.

Agriculture needs trade to survive and is the backbone of America’s economy, McPherson said in the release.

Trump thinks rural America was important to his election, the release said, and "we hope that will resonate with him as he works on new trade deals that help rural America and especially American agriculture.”
