The five finalists for the Syngenta #RootedInAg contest -- asking participants to use essays and visuals to describe how the agricultural industry has helped their families and communities thrive -- were announced July 20.

The finalists are: Michelle Miller from Monona, Iowa; Cale Plowman from Douds, Iowa; Doug Rohner from Palmyra, Pennsylvania; William Tabb from Eupora, Mississippi; and Shelby Watson Hampton from Brandywine, Maryland.

“Agriculture plays such a key role in the success of so many communities across the country,” Wendell Calhoun, Syngenta’s communications manager, said. “We are proud to recognize our five #RootedInAg finalists, and thank all of our readers for their participation in this year’s contest.”

Participants included growers and agriculture professionals and the five finalists all received a mini touch screen tablet with leather case. They will compete for the grand prize of a $500 gift card and $1,000 donation to their favorite local charity. The winner will also be featured in an upcoming issue of Thrive magazine.

The Thrive magazine website offers a chance to vote for your favorite finalist, with the results added to the judges’ scores to determine a winner. Voting ends on Sept. 15, and Syngenta will name the winner in October.
