Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill testified in front of the Senate Agriculture subcommittee in early April on the importance of rural development programs in communities across America.

“Our communities thrive when we have economic development, when we have growth and so we seek growth in rural America and profitability, of course, in rural America,” Hill said.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is partnering with the Iowa Farm Bureau to work on plans for rural development programs. In addition to development programs, Hill reminded committee members that higher education remains important in rural communities.

“We start at a young age, we invest in our youth and then we do that at our universities,” Hill said. “At Iowa State University, Ag Entrepreneurship 334 is a class that we sponsor with the Iowa Farm Bureau.
