Syngenta has approximately 50 new crop protection projects that they anticipate releasing within the next five years, including 16 new crop protection products this year.
“That’s pretty remarkable,” Jeff Cecil, Syngenta's head of crop protection product marketing, said. “I’ve been in this industry for more than 20 years, and I’ve never seen this kind of pipeline coming out of any company. The pace is, in large part, due to the investment Syngenta makes in research and development — more than $1.3 billion globally each year. That translates into more than $3.5 million every day.”
The products introduced this year include three active ingredients that received registration in 2015 — Acuron herbicide, Solatenol fungicide and Orondis fungicide.
Syngenta recognizes that farmers are unable to control every aspect of plant growth like resistance, environmental conditions or pest shifts, but the company hopes the new products will help farmers to use every possible option to obtain the goal of a large and healthy yield.
“That’s why we are committed to a robust pipeline of new technologies that will help resolve challenges and make increased yield a reality,” he said.
