Members of the House and Senate Agriculture Appropriations subcommittees received a letter in mid-March from the American Soybean Association (ASA) and nearly 60 additional groups urging them to support the crop insurance program as it stands.

“As the appropriations committees consider annual spending bills, we respectfully urge you to protect crop insurance and recognize its central importance to farmers, lenders and all of rural America,” the letter said.

The letter represented the opinion of farm groups, crop insurance interests, lenders and many conservative groups. The signers said the crop insurance program will continue to "give lenders the assurances they need to provide capital to America’s farmers and ranchers."

The full text of the letter can be found on the ASA website.
