PerfectMatch herbicide, a product from Dow AgroSciences, is designed to simplify the management of spring wheat for growers and farmers, as it can be tempting to reduce herbicide programs because of declining commodity prices and the ongoing pressure to become more cost-efficient.
Despite these factors, Dow AgroSciences urges growers to continue their weed management, which can improve growers’ returns on yields.
Competition is due to crop yields that have declined and dockage costs that have also decreased.
“Today’s market is tough for spring wheat growers,” Bridgette Readel, Dow AgroSciences market development specialist, said. “Changes in the corn and soybean market have occurred, causing many traditional spring wheat growers to switch back to the wheat crop they are comfortable growing. With tight budgets, it is essential not to cut corners on weed management.”
One way to maintain weed management without raising input costs is to understand the weed pressure, targeting the specific weed species. The crops from a year before, like soybeans, canola, or sunflowers, can become weeds for the current season.
Another approach is to guarantee that the weed control program will give results. The new PerfectMatch herbicide eliminates the widest range of broadleaf weeds as well as grasses.
“Growers are excited about PerfectMatch because they have the opportunity to use a product ‘powered by WideMatch’ to control Canada thistle, wild buckwheat and kochia, plus grasses such as wild oats, Italian ryegrass and cheat,” Readel said. “Instead of having to tank-mix, they can handle key driver weeds with a one-product solution.
