Minnesota and Wisconsin corn farmers were hit with stalk rots, high disease pressure and below-ground insects during 2015, causing unusually weak stalks.

Syngenta hopes to help these farmers in 2016 by offering a range of Golden Harvest Corn hybrids that will have excellent stalk health.

“The danger in weak stalks are corn plants that can lean or blow over, making harvest more difficult and compromising yield potential,” Walker Techau, a product development agronomist at Syngenta, said. “Syngenta research scientists rate each hybrid for stalk and root strength. We recommend consulting with your local Syngenta Seed Advisor to select hybrids that fit your farm and provide late-season standability.”

The key hybrids offered in the range are the G94B95-5222 E-Z Refuge brand, which is very tolerable to drought while providing stalk strength; the G01P52-3122A brand is an Agrisure Artesian that expertly converts water to grain; finally the G02W74-3000GT which has the Agrisure 3000GT trait stack which protects against corn borer and rootworm, as well as excellent root and stalk strength.

The Golden Harvest Corn hybrids are available through Syngenta seed advisers who are able to tailor advice and recommendations for best selections based on the local area soil and climate.
