Affymetrix expands its agrigenomics genotyping portfolio

The Axiom 96 platform can interrogate upward of 800,000 markers while the Axiom 384 HT platform can accommodate approximately 50,000 genetic variants.

Affymetrix introduced several new agrigenomic genotyping solutions, including the Eureka Genotyping Solution that will provide a low-cost, low-plex option for genotyping by sequencing (GBS), during the Plant and Animal Genome Conference held in San Diego, California, this week.

Affymetrix also introduced two new array configurations for the Axiom genotyping platform.

The new Eureka Genotyping Solution is made possible by last year's acquisition of Eureka Genomics by Affymetrix. The solution is a new GBS that is enabled by an innovative and multiplexed combination of allele and sample-specific barcodes. These barcodes support high-sample plexing on a sequencer while delivering high quality SNP analysis. The new Axiom configurations will support the Eureka Genotyping Solution. The Axiom 96 platform can interrogate upward of 800,000 markers while the Axiom 384 HT platform can accommodate approximately 50,000 genetic variants.

"The new Eureka Genotyping Solution and Axiom array configurations allow customers to run a broad spectrum of genotyping applications from marker validation to routine screening," Laurent Bellon, Affymetrix's senior vice president and general manager for the Genotyping Business Unit, said. "Customers today are seeking flexible, high-throughput solutions that can deliver targeted, custom SNP panels containing critical ‘must-have’ markers associated with specific traits. The Eureka genotyping solution addresses this gap in current sequencing technologies by delivering targeted genotyping for thousands of samples per week in an easy and affordable manner."
