Monsanto releases annual R&D pipeline review

The Monsanto Co. released its research and development portfolio to show farmers what they are working on to support sustainable agricultural practices.

The company has innovations in the works in a variety of areas including plant breeding, plant biotechnology, chemistry, biologicals and data science.

“Increasingly, farmers throughout the world are being asked to do more to keep up with the growing demands of society and manage key challenges that prevent food and crops from making it to harvest,” Robert Fraley, Monsanto’s chief technology officer, said. “Science is helping us identify new solutions to help farmers reduce the footprint of global agriculture while also mitigating the effects of the challenges they face – whether from bugs, weeds, disease or weather. This research combined with continuous improvements in farming practices and collaborations with other thought leaders – can truly make a difference for farmers, the consumers they serve and our planet.”

Three highlighted areas of Monsanto’s Research and Development sustainable agriculture practices includes reducing the footprint of global agricultural production through better harvests. Monsanto is in the process of developing a high-density corn system and are in the early stages of research for new Next Generation products to help farmers boost their crop yield. Secondly, Monsanto is working to protect the footprint of global agriculture production from threats of pests and disease. Finally, Monsanto promises to continue to deliver the best products from improvement to global agricultural production, including research on honeybee health, soil microbials and advancements in digital technology.
