US ethanol exports reach record high in September

Ethanol exports for September are up 6 percent from September 2014, making it the highest recorded quantity sold, according to the United States Grains Council.

The record-breaking sales will help the ethanol industry's global promotion efforts. Trade data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Global Agricultural Trade System says that 60 million gallons of United States ethanol were exported in September at a value of almost $130 million.

Canada, India and Korea were the top three markets to buy ethanol from the U.S. in September. Canada purchased 26 million gallons ($66 million). India bought 14.3 million gallons ($25 million), 412 percent more than a year ago. Korea imported 8.5 million gallons ($19 million).

Exports to these countries were all industrial ethanol markets, not fuel ethanol.

Another highlight of the September report is that Mexico imported 35 percent more ethanol from the United States than in the past, or 2.7 million gallons.
