Gro Alliance adds new facility in Indiana

Construction has begun on a seed corn conditioning, treating and packaging facility at the Glo Alliance location in Howe, Indiana.

Gro Alliance is the largest independently owned contract seed corn production company in the United States. It has been producing seeds since 1941 and currently produces GMO, non-GMO, organic and popcorn seed. In addition to producing seeds, the company provides nursery and inbred services for companies around the world.

“The expansion in Howe is another step in our continued efforts to expand production capacity to meet our clients’ needs,”  Gro Alliance President Jim Schweigert said. “The expansion doubles our company-wide conditioning, treating and packaging capacity and gives us the most advanced contract seed corn production facility in the country.”

The $6 million expansion will add five to 10 full-time jobs and additional packaging season positions. The new facility will feature refuge-in-bag blending, batch treating and color sorting, kernel cleaning and seed quality.

Before the renovation, the Howe facility was a drying and shelling location. The conditioning, treating and packaging aspects of the company were completed at one of the company’s other two locations.
