A joint effort between the National Wheat Foundation and the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) has formed the National Wheat Action Plan to revitalize the industry.
The National Wheat Action Plan is the first of many collaborative efforts to increase research and improve wheat productivity and farmer profitability. The wheat industry is growing at a slower pace than comparison crop industries as well as being faced with growing competition around the globe.
Plans are to analyze what wheat growers have to say and build a business plan based on the best way to increase revenue. The industry is already getting behind this plan as CropLife America, Monsanto, Syngenta and WinField have all voiced their support.
“The wheat industry is not keeping pace with other crops. As a wheat grower-leader, I want to see the industry flourish not decline. Reinvigorating the wheat industry will come from increased productivity and profitability,” NAWG President Brett Blankenship, a wheat grower from Washington, said. “This strategic plan will provide us with the insight and analysis we need to move the U.S. wheat industry forward in a stronger direction.”
The National Wheat Action Plan will focus on attracting more interest, support and investments from private capital.
