Farm Bureau expresses concern over new EPA ruling.
The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) is worried that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is more concerned about regulation than safety in the final revision of the Worker Protection Standard, and the federation hopes the EPA has changed course to a more science-based approach to risk management.

The Farm Bureau helps farmers and ranchers by its dedication to the safe use of chemicals -- no matter the size of a farm -- from the neighborhood home garden to commercial farmland. It is important to farmers and ranchers that they have confidence that all of their tools are safe to use.

“Farm Bureau shares the agency’s desire to protect workers, but we are concerned that the agency is piling regulatory costs on farmers and ranchers that bear little if any relation to actual safety issues,” Paul Schlegel, director of environment and energy policy for AFBF, said. “We are hopeful the agency’s final rule will reflect our concerns and protect farmers’ and ranchers’ ability to promote a safe, productive environment.”

The mission of the AFBF is to be the unified national voice of agriculture, working through grassroots organizations to enhance and strengthen the lives of rural Americans and to build prosperous agricultural communities.
