Bayer CropScience LP and Elemental Enzymes Ag and Turf LLC said on Tuesday that they have launched a research initiative to improve crop production by creating new technologies for sustainability and to meet the challenge of feeding the growing world population.
The collaboration allows Elemental Enzymes to use innovations created by the research in other areas and industries in the future. “Bayer CropScience is a world-class partner to help introduce our proprietary platform to farmers globally,” Jim Zimmer, global commercialization lead for Elemental Enzymes, said.
The primary goal for the research is to develop technology to broaden Bayer CropScience’s efforts to feed the world’s hungry. The company expects this to be a long-term goal as the population grows; the population is estimated to exceed 9 billion people by 2050.
“We believe this research will advance the use of soil microbes as a key component of modern agricultural practices in the future,” Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP, said. “This technology provides a unique opportunity to build on Bayer’s industry-leading solutions by developing new products that offer growers a means of increasing yields on their existing acreage.”
