Farm group cheers House passage of Safe, Accurate Food Labeling Act

The  American Farm Bureau Federation released a statement on Monday cheering House passage of the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 late last week.

"The American Farm Bureau Federation supports all farmers and ranchers and opposes anyone who stands in the way of safe, affordable food," the statement said. "Consumers benefit from variety in the marketplace and should be free to make choices based on facts."

"The facts are that many farmers are growing more food with fewer resources, reducing their environmental impact, and keeping costs down -- all thanks to advances in biotechnology," the group said.

In the statement, the group thanked U.S. Reps. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) and G.K. Butterfield (D-NC) for introducing the legislation, and House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway (R-TX) and Ranking Member Collin Peterson (D-MN) for shepherding the bill through the House.
