Dow AgroSciences said Thursday that it plans to release a new corn herbicide to control weeds deep into the growing season next year.
The new product, currently known as GF-3471, will feature a novel formulation of three leading active ingredients that have not been combined in any previous herbicide. The exclusive formulation, which does not include atrazine or glyphosate, contains three modes of action. It is expected to exceed industry standards and provide residual control of many herbicide-resistant weeds, including Palmer amaranth and giant ragweed.
Dow AgroSciences Corn Herbicides Product Manager Luke Peters said that when the new herbicide gets regulatory approval it will offer corn growers peace of mind, knowing that their weeds will be controlled well into the season.
"We have learned in the past that providing trusted, residual activity allows cornfields to stay cleaner longer, which can lead to higher yield,” Peters said.
This herbicide formulation is expected to offer flexible application timing, from pre-plant to early post-emergence.
"The troublesome weeds growers face today are very concerning," Peters said. "We look forward to offering GF-3471 to improve efficacy and help solve the ever-growing threat to yield potential. In early field trials, it has shown exceptional weed control."
