The Environmental Protection Agency has approved expanded registration for Vestaron's biological insect control products that will be commercially available later this year under the Spear trade name, Vestaron Corp. said May 8.
The biological insecticides are derived from newly discovered naturally occurring peptides, and the expanded registration approval will expand their use on crops and insects, including caterpillars, beetles and thrips.
Vestaron Vice President of Business Development and Marketing Mark Quick said approval of the expanded label is a substantial milestone toward commercial use of its effective and environmentally friendly biological insecticides.
“Insect resistance to existing chemistries is a huge concern,” Quick said. “Vestaron’s products, with their unique mode of action and outstanding safety profile, provide growers with a new and effective option for control of target pests. They will be a prime choice in resistance management programs and provide growers greater flexibility in field operations.”
