Agricultural films market expected to grow substantially

A new report released on Thursday by London-based market research firm Technavio projects the global agricultural film's market will grow at a compound annual rate of nearly 7 percent from 2015 to 2019.

The firm said growth in agricultural films is being driven by global crop shortages that have heightened the need for more efficient agricultural methods. The shortages are due to the global population increasing at an alarming rate over the last decade. As a result of crop shortages, the prices of staple foods have increased and led to global food security issues.

The report highlights the use of high barrier ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) films because they are almost impermeable to external gases, ensuring the moisture content and heat is constant in silage and greenhouse applications.

“Use of efficient technologies in agriculture is being encouraged to scale up the yield and make crop growing more efficient,” Faisal Ghaus, vice president of Technavio, said. “EVOH films have reduced environmental impact and generated better savings during the entire crop lifecycle."
