South Carolina Advocates for Agriculture’s Plant it Forward SC, an initiative to provide relief funds for part of farmers’ 2016 costs, recently received a $25,000 donation from Monsanto that will go directly toward relief funds for crop and livestock farmers.

“On behalf of South Carolina farmers, I cannot thank Monsanto enough for their generous donation to Plant it Forward SC," state Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers. "As an agricultural company, Monsanto understands the difficulties our farmers are currently facing, and their willingness to help is indicative of their commitment to the industry. Many farmers are facing unprecedented challenges, and this donation will help them continue in 2016."

In October, South Carolina was hit with devastating floods that caused crops and hay for livestock to be lost.

“To say South Carolina farmers are resilient is an understatement,” James Hunt Bookhart, a district sales manager for Monsanto, said. “From drought to floods they dealt with some tough challenges in 2015, and as a resident of South Carolina I saw first-hand the devastating impact this storm had on local farms.”

Donations to help Plant it Forward SC are being accepted at its website (plantitforwardsc.org) through the end of February.
