The new Fierce XLT Soybean Herbicide by Valent USA Corp. ranks in the top tier for length of residual control and performance based on a 2015 demo program in partnership with the American Soybean Association (ASA).

The demo program took place during Fierce XLT's second season, receiving praise from growers who participated in the program for the herbicide. It is marketed as a broad spectrum, pre-emergence soybean herbicide with the longest lasting residual control of tough and resistant broadleaf weeds and grasses on the market.

Midwest members of the ASA did a side-by-side comparison of the Fierce XLT against their standard herbicide and 90 percent were satisfied overall with the same percentage of growers satisfied specifically with the extended length of the residual control. Fierce XLT ranked at or above 93 percent of the growers’ standard herbicide program. At the end of the trials, there was a 29 percent higher reduction in weed escapes with Fierce XLT.

"The growers who worked with us faced some tough weed challenges this past growing season, including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, common ragweed and giant ragweed," John Pawlak, senior manager of product development for Valent, said. "The excellent pre-emergence weed control of Fierce XLT provided growers with a longer window to apply post-emergence herbicides later in the season. It was rewarding to connect with Midwest growers and experience firsthand the results of three effective modes of action on soybean yields."
