BASF hosts European farm network conference

Professional farmers, nature conservation experts, academic experts and BASF experts from six European countries gathered Monday and Tuesday in Limburgerhof, Germany at the first BASF Farm Network Conference to talk about best practices for sustainable farming.

BASF is partnered with the Farm Network to offer activities, including the conference, that educate farmers about the delicate balance of farm production with the protection of the land and the environment. The work the Farm Network does also helps to enhance the diversity of the local animal species while also keeping the soil and water sustainable.

“BASF is a strong supporter of partnerships like the Farm Network. Similar to chemistry, partnerships are about creating the right bonds to shape the future ahead,” Vincent Gros, senior vice president for BASF Crop Protection Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East, said. “We gathered experts with different backgrounds to discuss a crucial challenge for farmers and also society: How modern agriculture can contribute to a thriving environment.”

Farm Network experts promote the planting of annual or perennial plants in the margins of fields to provide a place for beneficial insects to survive.

“These relevant results pushed us to a new target," Gros said. "Until 2020, we will grow the Farm Network from being European to become a global platform."
