Syngenta's Acuron wins Agri Marketing Magazine honor

Syngenta’s Acuron corn herbicide has been named Agri Marketing Magazine’s 2015 New Product of the Year, with presenters saying its tough weed control was the main factor in its selection over numerous nominees.

“This is the 18th anniversary of Agri Marketing’s New Product of the Year award, which is given to a product that benefits the marketplace and growers, making their operation more efficient while improving their bottom line,” Lynn Henderson, publisher and editorial director of the magazine, said.

Acuron is especially tough on broadleaf weeds, which have seen a 50 percent spike in the Midwest United States over the last four years.

“Farmers are analyzing their inputs more critically and realizing that if they want to fight resistance, they really need multiple modes of action and robust residual rates that a product like Acuron can provide,” John Foresman, Syngenta's  herbicide product lead, said. “We developed this herbicide with the farmer in mind, so for it to be named New Product of the Year by Agri Marketing is an honor.”

Acuron’s main active ingredient, bicyclopyrone, was tested in over 800 university, Syngenta and distributor trials that determined it had better weed control than competitive products.

“Hundreds of field trials have shown Acuron is a step-change in weed management, because it can dramatically improve a farmer’s efforts in tackling weed resistance,” David Piñon, communications lead at Syngenta, said. “Farmers have told us they felt like weeds were laughing at their current corn herbicides. We want farmers to have the last laugh on tough weeds.”
