Bayer's Silvanto prime insecticide gains European approval

The active ingredient, flupyradifurone, in Bayer CropScience’s insecticide Sivanto prime has been approved by the European Commission.

Flupyradifurone has been approved for 10 years, which is the maximum time allowed by the European Commission Regulation No. 1107/2009. Sivanto will be used on fruits and vegetables to prevent and kill a wide range of sucking pests on crops. Bayer CropScience will submit its first national registrations in European countries in 2016 and introduce the product to the European market in 2017. Sivanto prime can also be used in Integrated Pest Management programs.

“European growers, retailers, the food chain and consumers will all benefit from Sivanto prime,” Matthias Haas, responsible global project manager at Bayer CropScience, said. “It combines efficacy and convenience for the grower with excellent safety characteristics and will lead to better quality of produce. When applied at the proposed label rates, Sivanto prime is not associated with any adverse effects on honey bees and bumblebees.”

”We expect to receive regulatory approval in Canada and Australia by the end of the year,” Hans-Werner Rauen, global regulatory affairs manager for insecticides at Bayer CropScience, said.

Sivanto prime has already been introduced to agriculture markets in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and the United States.
