Cargill to invest $170 million in Mexico's agribusiness

Cargill, Inc. will spend $170 million on direct investments to expand its agribusiness in Mexico over the next few years.

In addition, between now and 2018, Cargill plans to provide another $1.1 billion in financing to support local producers and will purchase approximately $4.5 billion in Mexican crops.

"We believe Mexico can play a bigger role in feeding the world," Cargill Chief Executive David MacLennan said  during the re-inauguration of an animal feed plant in the western state of Jalisco, Mexico. 

MacLennan said the company wants to increase its presence in agriculture and supply chains throughout Mexico.

Cargill, which has been operating in Mexico for 50 years, provides  food, agriculture, financial and industrial products and services around the world.
