Syngenta adds 2 AgriPro brand winter wheat varieties

Syngenta announced Tuesday it is adding SY Llano and SY Monument hard red winter wheat varieties to its AgriPro brand wheat varieties as winter wheat seed selection approaches in the central and southern Plains.

“SY Llano and SY Monument are both top performing winter wheat varieties well-suited for the central and southern Plains,” Syngenta Key Account Manager for Plains Region Greg McCormack said. “Both varieties are excellent options for planting this fall as they have excelled in yield trials across the region and offer tolerance to leaf and stripe rust, diseases many wheat growers experienced in 2015.”

SY Llano is an excellent dual purpose graze and grain wheat, Syngenta said. Due to its early maturity, it is a good choice for growers double cropping. SY Llano has excellent test weights and good disease tolerance traits. SY Llano is best suited for the central corridor of Texas and Oklahoma into south central Kansas, up to Wichita.

SY Monument has good winter hardiness and very good test weight patterns, Syngenta said. SY Monument is best adapted to the central and western high plains of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and the Panhandle of Texas.

As winter wheat growers begin preparing for the upcoming planting season, Syngenta recommends implementing an integrated approach to crop management. Planting quality certified seed varieties and incorporating good planting practices are critical in helping wheat start strong.

“With seed treatments like CruiserMaxx Vibrance Cereals seed treatment insecticide/fungicide, protection begins the moment seeds are planted,” McCormack said. “As the season progresses, scouting and applying foliar fungicides become important. Growers who choose an integrated management approach will greatly benefit at harvest time, having maximized both their wheat yield and profit potential.”
