Longtime Bayer executive Jacqueline Applegate recently was selected to become the head of Environmental Science, Bayer CropScience's non-agricultural business operations unit.
Applegate will be based at the unit's headquarters in Lyon, France. She will take the place of Gunnar Riemann, who is leaving the company to pursue other career opportunities. Part of Applegate's new role includes becoming a member of the Bayer CropScience Executive Committee.
"We are absolutely delighted to have an executive with Jackie's experience and talents lead Environmental Science at a time of exciting change and opportunity," Bayer CropScience CEO Liam Condon said. "I also want to recognize and thank Dr. Riemann for his very valuable contributions and wish him all the best for the future."
During her 23-year career at Bayer, Applegate has been in several management positions. She is an American national who joined Environmental Science as head of Global Portfolio Management in 2005 and became president of Bayer Advanced Consumer Lawn & Garden USA in 2007.
"I am delighted to return to Environmental Science and take on global responsibility for a business that helps foster healthy environments in which we all live, work and play," Applegate said.
Until recently, Applegate was senior Bayer representative, and Bayer CropScience country head for Australia and New Zealand.
Applegate earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wright State University in Ohio, a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Iowa State University, and a master's of business administration from Rockhurst University, Executive Fellows Program in Missouri.
