The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently approved the new liquid formulation of Valent U.S.A. Corp.’s Zeal SC miticide, which will enable growers to apply the product with both ground and aerial equipment.

Zeal is registered for field corn -- including popcorn, corn for seed and corn grown for silage -- and for cotton and melons. Zeal targets all stages of the mite life cycles, from egg to adult, helping to control future generations. Its translaminar action reaches the mites where they hide and offers proven, long-lasting control with a single application. Zeal SC will be sold in a 2.5 gallon package that treats more than 100 acres.

Valent Product Development Manager Carlos Granadino said Zeal’s new dual application method provides growers with more options to control all life-stages of mites, from eggs to maturity.

"Zeal offers integrated pest management, and the product is farm-friendly, meaning it's softer on beneficial insects than most currently labeled miticides used on corn, and it has a short restricted entry interval," Granadino said.
