The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) thanked 37 senators last Friday for spearheading the effort to keep the 2014 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) blending requirements in line with the original law passed by Congress.
The senators requested the blending requirements be maintained in a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy, pointing out that RFS has helped drive development of alternative fuels and economic development.
“The RFS has strengthened agriculture markets and created hundreds of thousands of jobs,” the senators said. “Setting strong biofuels volume requirements for 2014 and beyond will ensure this progress continues.”
NCGA President Chip Bowling lauded the legislators for leading the country’s energy movement forward.
“We are encouraged to see broad, bipartisan support for the RFS,” Bowling said. “We agree with the senators that the RFS has been a highly successful policy, reducing our dependence of foreign oil, lowering the price of gasoline and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
