DuPont recently agreed to acquire Taxon Bioscience, Inc. in an effort to strengthen its seed and crop protection businesses.
The purchase of the micro biome discovery company is expected to close during the second quarter and will expand DuPont’s ability to provide innovative biological products to agriculture customers worldwide. Taxon is based in Tiburon, California, and the company has proprietary microbial consortia and microbial genomics products that will help DuPont develop new seed treatment, foliar and soil application products for important row crops, fruits and vegetables.
"The acquisition of Taxon will complement and enhance our in-house microbial discovery programs," DuPont Biologicals Director Frank DeGennaro said. "With this added capability, we expect to accelerate our time from discovery to market, and we are field testing biological discovery leads identified by Taxon this year."
Taxon CEO and President Glenn Nedwin said the company is enthusiastic about contributing to DuPont’s efforts to help transform the future of agriculture with crop biologicals.
"Our unique technology platform coupled with DuPont's robust research capabilities and positioning across several markets makes the integration of Taxon into DuPont a natural fit and will support DuPont's ability to bring new products to the market faster," Nedwin said.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
